Microsoft today announced that its chat-based workspace, Teams, is now available to Office 365 business customers.
Teams provides a modern conversation experience with threaded, persistent chat, according to the company announcement. Teams has been seen as a threat to other chat-based tools such as Slack because of its deep integrations with other Office apps such as Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
“In a world where information is abundant and human time and attention remain scarce, we aspire to help people and groups of people be more productive, wherever they are,” said Satya Nadella, CEO, Microsoft, in a prepared statement. “Office 365 is the broadest platform and universal toolkit for creation, collaboration and communication.”
Teams can be customized with tabs, connectors and bots to create the collaboration experience the organization requires. It is integrated with Visual Studio Team Services, and more than 150 other integrations are coming, with SAP and Trello among them.
