How to manage sandbox solutions in SharePoint Server

Microsoft is moving away from code-based sandbox solutions. The company already depreciated them in SharePoint 2013 and SharePoint Online in January 2014, and now it wants to help customers prepare for their removal in other solutions. According to the company, users could only execute sandbox solutions they know and trust. The company announced the Manage Solutions Gallery for SharePoint Server 2010, 2013 and 2016. The new gallery aims provide a list of known and trusted code-based sandbox solutions.

Microsoft has given us an update on SharePoint Server 2016, announcing its Q2 general availability in 2016. Key takeaways include the statement that SharePoint on-premises will be around for years to come, and that hybrid is now a long-term solution, not just a stepping stone to an all-cloud implementation.

In a blog post Monday, Microsoft’s Julia White laid out a road map for the future of on-premises SharePoint (you can read more about the announcement in the news section of this newsletter).

There wasn’t much revelation in the announcement. We have known for some time there would be a next version of SharePoint Server. We knew that it would incorporate features from Office 365, and the messaging from Microsoft caught up nicely with Office 365 by saying that many customers will opt for a hybrid solution, and SharePoint 2016 is being rearchitected in the image of the cloud.
